Sun Sentinel: World Happiness Summit to smile on Miami.

Sun Sentinel: World Happiness Summit to smile on Miami.

Here’s something that South Florida could use a little bit of — a happiness conference.

The World Happiness Summit (or WOHASU) takes place Friday through Sunday at the Shalala Center at the University of Miami in Coral Gables.

It’s a feel-good weekend of yoga, meditation and motivational talks centered on how people can find and sustain happiness and well-being in their personal and professional lives.

“We need to apply new tools to the increasing levels of depression and anxiety that our communities are facing,’’ said Karen Guggenheim, founder and chief executive officer of the summit. “We can best reach our potential when we are happier, that’s not fluff; it’s science.”

This is the second year the conference is being held in Miami. The expected 45 speakers represent a mix of professors, business leaders and political leaders such as former President of Mexico Vicente Fox who will take part in a panel on how happiness impacts individuals and communities.

Other speakers include Mo Gawdat, former chief business officer at Google and author of “Solve for Happy: Engineer Your Path to Joy” and Margarita Tarragona, a therapist, teacher and coach who directs the “Positive Psychology” program at the Ibero-American University in Mexico City.
